The mill is still operating, but few mill workers live in the town any more. Instead the town seems to have become a great vacation home and early retirement destination, as it lies in the heart of all central Oregon recreation and is particularly attractive to sports people who enjoy snow sports, great hunting and fishing, and all of the other high mountain lake and river sports. Willamette Ski Pass is a short distance away and is one of the few places in the state that offers night skiing; but Gilchrist is probably more popular with snowmobilers, as you dont have to drive anywhere in the winter to access over 600 miles of groomed and marked snowmobile trails!

Ask about a hunting party, fishing expeditions, snowmobile trail maps, hiking, golf trips to sunriver and quail run, weight management and special health getaway regimes? We will cater to your special diets and exercise requirements. Ask us for options or tell us what you need.

The Inn has a great deal of charm, and is a particular delight for those who love a great comfortable getaway, but enjoy the park and walk attributes of being able to walk a block to eat, sip on a favorite beverage, shop or be entertained. The Gilchrist Restaurant and Pine Room boasts the nations smallest sanctioned bowling alley (2 lanes) and offers additional entertainment with monthly comedy night dinner shows, lottery games, pool, shuffle board, live music many weekends but always a lively jukebox going with great music for every taste and a small place to dance if you get in the mood.

Whether you want breakfast, a great burger or a prime rib dinner, you will be pleased; but the fun and entertaining restaurateur, Rick Ward, will always remind you to save room for his homemade pie! It will be a fun time, every time!
